A Letdown in Brown Town

In anticipation of my hoppy brown being unveiled this weekend, I eagerly opened a long awaited can of Surly's Bender, an oatmeal brown ale. I hope mine's better. Pours to a beautiful deep rich brown, almost near black. Huge three finder plus frothy head.  Once gone, there is an odd floaty-ridden film on top. The taste, like a recent Floyd's entry, is ho-hum. This beer has a thin body (like Furious, which, despite Pete's non-sense, is an absolutely wonderful beer) and has minimal tastes of "brown ale taste", some oatmeal and vanilla, and very abrupt, clean finish. If a beer has no major hop profile, it better kick my ass some other way. Mission not accomplished. Easy drinkin', but fails to meet expectations.
